Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Police then located numerous other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior political figure stated the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
